The Church has announced the youth theme for 2023: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Learn more about this scripture on this page of the Church website.

Parents and youth leaders are encouraged to teach thematic scripture principles at home and at church throughout the year. Additionally, the theme can be used as a topic for sacrament meeting talks given by youth and can serve as a starting point for youth activities, camps, youth conferences, and devotions. The theme is also highlighted at For the Strength of Youth (FSY) conferences around the world.

Resources, including music, videos, and artwork, will be available on the Church’s website, social media, and in the For the strength of youth magazine. An email will be sent to leaders later this year when these resources are available. See the image of the Church for this year’s theme at the top of this article.

Here is a list of scriptures that have been used as themes over the years:

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and do not lean on your own intelligence. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

“Therefore, do not grow weary of doing good, for you are laying the foundation for a great work. And from small things proceeds what is great. Behold, the Lord has need of a willing heart and mind” (Doctrine and Covenants 64:33–34).

“And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father, I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandment unto the children of men, except he prepare a way for them to do the thing that he commands them” (1 Nephi 3:7; italics added).

“If you love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

“Learn from me, and hear my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you will have peace in me. (Doctrine and Covenants 19:23)

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all generously and without reproach; and it will be given to him. But let it ask in faith, nothing hesitant. For he who totters is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed about” (James 1:5-6, italics added)

“Therefore, you must go forward with constancy in Christ, having a perfect radiance of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye go forth, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure unto the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have everlasting life. (2 Nephi 31:20, italics added)

“O you who engage in the service of God, be sure to serve him with all your heart, and with all your might, and with all your mind, and with all your strength, that you may stand blameless before God at the last day” (D&C 4 :2).

“Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves all ungodliness; and if you deny yourselves all ungodliness, then his grace is sufficient for you, that by his grace you may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God you are perfect in Christ, you can in no way deny the power of God” (Moroni 10:32).

“Therefore, stand in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it comes soon, saith the Lord” (D&C 87:8).

“Arise and shine, that your light may be an ensign to the nations” (D&C 115:5).

“We believe that we are honest, faithful, chaste, benevolent, virtuous and do good to all men; indeed, we can say that we follow Paul’s warning: We believe everything, we hope everything, we have endured much and hope to be able to endure everything. If there is anything virtuous, or lovely, or worthy, or praiseworthy, we seek those things” (Articles of Faith 1:13).

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

“Be an example to believers, in word, in word, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
