Students from local schools were presented with a world of opportunity at the Echuca Moama Youth Expo, held at Echuca Stadium on Thursday, September 8.
Students in grades 8-10 from St Joseph’s College, Echuca College, River City Christian College, Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School and Moama Anglican Grammar attended the eye-opening exhibit which featured more than 35 booths .
A wide range of social groups, sports clubs, businesses, organizations and health services were on display.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Chrissy Weller said the exhibit was a collaboration between the council, the Campaspe Cohuna Local Learning and Employment Network and participating schools.
“The expo provided space for local organizations, community groups and clubs to provide opportunities for teens to get involved in their community or be part of a supportive group environment,” she said. .
“Hobbies and interests such as football, theater and martial arts were on display, as were volunteer groups such as the fire brigade, op shop and library.
“Students participated in the creation of this event by proposing ideas for exhibitions and other activities. We value the opinion of our young residents and will continue to involve them in all matters relating to youth programs.

Cr Weller said the exposure had a number of important underlying motives.
“While students ventured out to sports club activities or art tables, they were able to stop at booths presented by alcohol and drug support groups, headspace, neighborhood and many health and wellness services,” she said.
“It at least makes students aware that help is there if they need it.”
The Echuca Moama Youth Expo was funded by the FReeZA program of the State Youth Office. This funding will allow many activities and programs to be carried out over the next three years.
FReeZA is a Victorian Government initiative that helps young Victorians get involved in their community by planning and running drug, alcohol and smoke free events for other young people.
