The Wedgwood Christian Services NextGen Council will hold its inaugural event in support of at-risk youth.
The NextGen Council of Wedgwood Christian Services, a young committee of Wedgewood professionals raising awareness for the organization, is hosting a Fill the Backpack event from 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at Roselle Park, 1010 Grand River Drive NE in Ada.
Fill the Backpack is a free event with activities for the whole family, including a visit from Wedgewood President and CEO Dan Gowdy, time to put together backpacks with school supplies and activity cards. writing for children in the Wedgwood Residential Program, a social network and dinner and dessert provided by Patty Matters Food Truck.
“The NextGen Council is constantly inspired by how Wedgwood serves our community, and we are thrilled to support Wedgwood by hosting the Fill the Backpack event this summer,” said Lynzey Gibbons, Co-Chair of Wedgwood’s NextGen Council. “I am delighted to be able to invite my network of peers to this event – I can’t think of a better way to introduce people to the amazing work being done at Wedgwood while serving Wedgwood’s customers.”
The event will be the first for NextGen and will focus on making cheering notes for children in Wedgwood’s residential treatment program and collecting school supplies to fill the backpacks of students at Lighthouse Academy, a school in charter launched in 2012 by Wedgwood Christian Services which offers tuition fees. free program for at-risk adolescents who no longer have educational options.
“Wedgwood is so grateful to have an incredible group of thoughtful young leaders who are passionate about our mission to bring hope and healing to hurting youth and families in our community,” said Kori Thompson, Agent Wedgwood Advancement Board and NextGen Board Advisor. “When they approached me with the idea of collecting school supplies for young people who rely on Wedgwood’s grace-filled care, I was overjoyed. They fill a concrete need while inviting their peers to get involved and make a difference in a student’s life.
