The MSC Foundation announced today that it is partnering with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as the title sponsor of its inaugural Global Youth Tourism Summit, bringing a wide range of experiences and of stimulating resources to this historic initiative, which will be held in Sorrento, Italy, from June 27 to July 3, according to a press release.
The first Global Youth Tourism Summit will focus on the theme of sustainable international tourism and how the Sustainable Development Goals interact with tourism.
The initiative is built on the recognition that sustainable development and peace can only be achieved if we engage young people and create the conditions for them to reach and unleash their full potential, a press release said.
Aimed to help children and young people contribute to building a sector that combines sustainability, culture, gastronomy, innovation and climate action, the Summit will offer them a unique platform to share and discuss their ideas, visions and innovative proposals for the future of sustainable tourism. .
High-level representatives from UNWTO, other leading institutions and local and national governments will be present, as well as industry experts, celebrities and the media.
The MSC Foundation, through the MSC Group, will contribute to a diverse range of joint initiatives and activities to enrich the program of the 130 young representatives from more than 60 countries, including a one-day training and an excursion morning.
The one-day training course, Maritime Transport and Tourism as Drivers of a Sustainable Future, will see MSC bring its unique expertise and know-how to a training course dedicated to young people at the MSC Training Center on June 30. 2022. The varied activities will range from a ship deck simulator experience to a workshop and master class, all evidenced by an official certificate of participation. This will be followed by a dinner for the whole group, bringing together children, young people and accompanying parents with ministers and ministerial delegations, government representatives, Summit partners, UNWTO delegates and other key United Nations agencies, as well as personalities.
The field trip, Exploring the Rich Resources of Our Seas, will take place on Saturday July 2, 2022. Taking the form of a visit focusing on marine protection, environmental conservation and responsible tourism in partnership with the NGO Italian Marevivo, the field trip will link three activities: a boat trip, a sea observation with snorkeling and a visit to the marine protected area of Punta Campanella and its center, accompanied by expert guides and a biologist marine.
