The Best Places to Sign Up for Youth Sports in Metro Detroit – LittleGuide Detroit

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual, that’s why we created LittleGuide. If you’re looking to enroll your little one in an extracurricular activity or trying to figure out when to start looking for extracurricular activities, we’re here to help.

When to start?

Children’s lessons start as young as 4 months for swimming lessons (and this is a great idea for safety reasons), but children usually cannot fully participate in a structured lesson until they are 3 or 4 years old. That doesn’t mean you have to wait to register! We started football when my son was 2 and although the class was like babysitting cats he had fun playing with friends and we looked forward to chatting with other parents.

Where to register?

Almost every city and township has a parks and recreation department that offers a variety of courses and leagues for young people. It’s a convenient way to find an activity near you. The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit also has 10 locations in Southeast Michigan with a diverse list of youth classes available. If you are looking for specialized training or unique services, we have compiled a list of the most popular sites in the area and included the age ranges from which to start.
