Prince William Youth Care Center staff member had sex with teenager: police

A 38-year-old staff member who worked at a Prince William County at-risk youth center had sex with a 16-year-old girl at the facility, police said.

Dennis James Heflin, of Linden, who worked at Youth for Tomorrow, was arrested on Friday June 3 and charged with indecent liberty with a guard, Prince William County Police said.

Investigators have been made aware of a possible sexual assault that took place on the school’s campus in Bristow between January 1 and March 11. One of the residents told a staff member about Heflin’s alleged inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl and they called authorities, police said. Detectives from the department’s Special Victims Unit began investigating the report on March 15.

It is unclear what role Heflin played at Youth For Tomorrow or if he is still working there. A call to the center was not immediately returned.

Police only identified Heflin as having a caretaker role with the children at the center.

According to the group’s website, Youth For Tomorrow provides counselling, home care and mentoring to boys and girls. This includes counseling and crisis services for pregnant girls and those who have been sexually exploited or trafficked.
