One of our main missions here at WarbirdsNews is to help promote the preservation of aviation history and historical artifacts for the future. For this to happen, it is essential to encourage younger generations to get involved in aviation, which is why we applaud and publicize the efforts of museums, groups and individuals in such endeavours. The Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii is offering a full summer of activities for young people in 2018, so we thought we’d share them here…

Offers summer programs and activities for youth
June 2 – Aerial Adventures: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Hands-on aviation and STEM-related activities for kids of all ages and their families, including a remote control curriculum, flight simulator training, and open cockpits. The event will conclude with flight demonstrations by award-winning remote control aircraft pilots from Warbirds West. Admission $5 per person, or free with admission to the Museum.
June 5 – Halfway Youth Day: This special event is for students in grades 6-9 only. The program is free and registration is required. Participation is limited to 100 students. The Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge, located 1,300 miles from Oahu, was the center of the World War II battle that “turned the tide in the Pacific”. Students will explore the significance of the battle and learn about ongoing efforts to protect and preserve this important site. Midway Youth Day is organized in partnership with NOAA and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, which, in addition to the State of Hawaii, co-administer the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. June 11-15 – Boys’ Flight School: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.. A five-day adventure in aviation history and technology for 6and– 8th graders. Immersive and hands-on activities with an emphasis on Pacific aviation and fun. $330 per student ($290 for Museum members) for the five-day program and includes all equipment, lunches, snacks and a t-shirt with the flight school logo. July 30-August 1 – Aeronautical Adventure: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Co-ed residential adventure camp for teens. Students ages 13-15 (or graduates of the museum’s flight school) will discover how aviation has transformed Hawaii and the Pacific Rim over the past century. Campers will work together to improve teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking. Overnight on the USS Missouri Battleship Memorial. The $340 program fee ($300 museum members) for this three-day/two-night program includes all materials, meals, snacks, overnight accommodation, and a logo t-shirt. The Pearl Harbor Pacific Aviation Museum is located on historic Ford Island, where bombs fell during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Visitors to the museum can view remnants from that day of infamy, including the 158-foot-tall, red-and-white iconic Ford Island Field Control Tower, Hangars 37 and 79, and the bullet holes in Hangar 79. Through the preservation and restoration of aircraft WWII combat aircraft and accompanying artifacts in the museum’s historic hangars, the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor shares the story of the vital role aviation played in the victory of WWII and its role continued in maintaining the freedom and peace of America.
