Scouts, one of the largest youth organizations on the Isle of Wight, have appointed a new County Youth Commissioner and 2 deputies.
Following an open competition and interview, Becca Steen of the 7th Newport Scout Group was appointed County Youth Commissioner.
After her appointment, Becca said:
“I look forward to working closely with our youth and adult volunteers across the island. Our role as Youth Commissioners is to ensure that Scouting’s program and activities on the Island are shaped by young people.
The 2 Assistant Youth Commissioners are Lotty Green from the Smugglers Scout Network (an island-wide network) and Hannah Flowers from the Xtreme Explorer Scout Unit (based in Newport).
Youth commissioners are volunteers responsible for leading scouting formed by young people on the island. They will support around 400 adult volunteers on the Island to incorporate the ideas and decisions of young people into local Scouting, playing a key role in the direction and management of Scouting on the Isle of Wight.
Dave Simpson, County Commissioner for Isle of Wight Scouts, said:
“It’s important to make sure our programs are ‘youth shaped’. I want to thank Connor Jones for his time as County Youth Commissioner which got us through the 2018 World Scout Jamboree and the COVID-19 pandemic. Becky, Lotty and Hannah will be a strong team and build on Connor’s great work across the county.
