Jordan Participates in Youth Tourism Summit in Italy | Culture & Society

Ammon News – Two Jordanian students from a local school attended the Global Youth Tourism Summit (GYTS) currently taking place in Sorrento, Italy from June 27 to July 3, bringing together 130 participants from 60 countries.

GYTS is a new platform developed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) that aims to empower young people to play an active role in decision-making processes in the tourism sector. It brings together children and young people aged 12-18 with UN and government officials, tourism industry representatives, globally recognized celebrities, experts and other key stakeholders.

GYTS includes a series of international events, workshops and other educational initiatives that will provide children and young people with a unique platform to share and discuss ideas and shape their visions for the future of sustainable tourism in framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Summit reflects UNWTO’s focus on innovation and the digital transformation of tourism, with a specialized session on internet security organized in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as well as a conference on virtual tourism and Metaverse in partnership with Meta.

Participants will explore different aspects of responsible and sustainable tourism through a variety of interactive activities: webinars, workshops, round tables, masterclasses, plenary sessions, cultural and sports activities and simulations of the UNWTO General Assembly.
