“It’s time:” Mt. Vernon vet says goodbye to practice after 40

MOUNT VERNON (WSIL) — Two paintings hang in the waiting room of Dr. Dwight Thomas’ Mt. Cabinet Vernon, painted by the owners of his patient, to thank him for taking care of their pets.

“I really feel like it’s a privilege that people trust me to allow me to take care of their pets,” said Dr Thomas.

After being in business for 40 years, Dr Thomas has announced that July 30 will be his last day.

“It’s amazing. Time goes by and you really don’t think about it, but when I announced my retirement, people came and said ‘you’ve been treating my dogs for 40 years, or 30 years’, or so a long time, “said Dr Thomas.

Dr Thomas loves spending time with his furry patients, but he decided it was time to retire and spend more time with his grandchildren.

“I just want to spend more time with them. Go to games and that sort of thing. And I was like, ‘Well. I’m feeling good and I’m in good health.

After a wave of support, Dr Thomas knows he will miss his patients and their owners.

But, he is ready for the next chapter of his life.

“Most people, when they retire from a job, are like, ‘oh, I hate this job! I can’t wait to get out! “But I certainly have mixed feelings, but it’s about time,” Dr Thomas said.
