‘Incredible experience’: Ashley Maalouf, Youth Mayor of Bathurst, talks about her time with the Bathurst Youth Council | western avocado

With a lot of experience gained as a member of the Bathurst Youth Council over the past few years, Ashley Maalouf is full of praise for the opportunity she had. Applications are currently open for youth ages 15-18 to join the Bathurst Youth Council. Maalouf, who currently serves as Bathurst’s youth mayor, is in her final year of school, meaning her current term on council should be her last. But she encourages anyone considering a youth council to give it a shot. READ MORE: ‘You have nothing to lose, raise your hand for any chance you may have,’ she said. “It’s an amazing experience at this age to be part of the local youth council, as a representative of your age group. “You develop life skills, build self-confidence and feel a sense of pride and achievements in completed projects that you complete as a team.” Ms. Maalouf served two terms on the youth council – 2020-21 and 2021-22 – and she said it has been a privilege to be a part of it.” Each year has been a privilege to work with a full team of like-minded advisors eager to solve problems within the community,” she said. “I was honored to be the young mayor because I connected with people I never thought I would meet and talk to, such a great experience and something I will never forget. “Ms. Maalouf said that the youth council has opened many doors for her for her own growth and confidence in personality. “Being part of the youth council involves attending regular meetings, expressing your ideas, developing and working on projects, promoting the youth council work and assisting in the organization of youth council events,” she said. “The Youth Council also coordinates, plans and implements community activities and events, including Youth Week.” An event that took place during Youth Week was the successful running event fun in color. It was run by the youth council, it was an incredible turnout with over 500 people in attendance. “It was such a privilege to be part of this team and to pass on a position to the next youth leaders.” The Bathurst Youth Facebook page has up-to-date information on the Bathurst Regional Youth Council and its current activities.
