Here’s how to sign up for youth activities during the Christmas holidays

A VARIETY of activities are in place to offer support to children who need it most during the Christmas holidays.

Designed to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of vulnerable children, the program of events originates from the Shropshire Council and works with more than 20 different providers, from December 20 to 24.

“I am absolutely delighted that we are able to work with amazing schools and businesses to put together this wonderful program of events over the Christmas holiday period,” said Tanya Miles, executive director of staff at Shropshire Council.

She added, “This is a great opportunity for children to learn new skills, socialize with friends and enjoy nutritious food in a safe environment.

“School holidays can be a particularly difficult time for some families due to rising food and child costs and declining income. These events will hopefully alleviate the stress of families who need extra support. ”

Activities range from “dancing and boxing to bushcraft and cooking”, with “something for everyone”. Free places are available for children and young adults aged 5 to 16 who are entitled to free school meals. The What’s On guide and the HAF vouchers will be given to the families of these children when they arrive at school this week.

It follows a similar HAF program carried out over the summer. This event saw more than 4,500 children and youth participate in 869 activity sessions in 64 different locations over seven weeks. The program was considered a huge success.

Some vacation programs also include an area for children and youth who do not receive free school meals.
