Generation Amazing youth champion a football team building activity.
Doha: Maker Majlis, a collaborative platform under the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently organized a workshop for young advocates of the Amazing Generation entitled “Sports for the humanity, development and peace: training in conception and ideation”. .
Dr. Evren Tok, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Innovation and Community Engagement at CIS, presented the training alongside Bayan Khaled, Researcher, and Alina Zaman, Research Assistant.
Using the Lego Serious Play method, the workshop was divided into several activities and included an introduction to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by Dr. Duygu Sever Mehmetoglu, postdoctoral researcher at CIS.
The session familiarized youth advocates with the different components of ideation and design through Lego Serious Play, and guided them through a series of issues related to sport and football in relation to peace, development and humanitarianism.
Their individual three-dimensional models served as the basis for group discussion, knowledge sharing, problem-solving and decision-making, encouraging participants to identify ideas for using sport to achieve the SDGs.
The session ended with a football team building activity.
Generation Amazing’s young advocates are embarked on a year-long capacity-building journey to prepare them for a role as advocates for change.
The workshop was in line with the overall aims of Maker Majlis to encourage young people to engage in activities related to the SDGs.
