The description


Meet with both youth groups at least twice a month at a set time, but with a flexible schedule for fellowship, community outreach, and service; joint meetings may sometimes be appropriate. Submit a monthly summary (and plans for next month’s commitments) to the Sacristy. Provide weekly announcements and information, as appropriate, to the congregation through our email, website, and Facebook page. Schedule and attend staff meetings as required. Specific responsibilities for youth ministry – 12 years and over (middle and high school):

  • Engage young people so that they participate in the development of their own youth program.
  • Lead a monthly meeting (HS and MS) and build relationships with youth to plan outreach, fellowship and worship. Outdoor gatherings are welcome; Trips to Sanctuary Mount are welcome. (Masking and other pandemic warnings may dictate schedule changes.)
  • Using our youth list, celebrate birthdays and plan fun activities when appropriate. Specific responsibilities for youth ministry – ages 5-11 (elementary school).
  • Create an activity/lesson/commitment every two weeks. This lesson can take place as a “Christian Training Time” or “Children’s Church” before, during, or after Sunday morning services.
  • Engage children in planned activities that promote outreach and service.
  • Using our youth list, celebrate birthdays and plan fun activities when appropriate.


Qualifications, skills and expectations:

  • Experience and joy of serving and empowering young people.
  • Proficiency in social media relevant to HS and MS Youth (including Zoom).
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • An openness to new ideas.
  • Strong communication skills and good judgment in knowing when/what to communicate.
  • Strong decision-making skills and good judgment in knowing when/how to include others in decisions.
  • Ability to manage conflict and know when/how to ask for help.
  • A “team player” attitude.
  • Willingness to function under the supervision and guidance of the priest/vestry.
  • A self-care practice in the physical, mental and spiritual preparation to engage with active youth.
  • A sense of privacy/fairness in knowing when/how to report questionable behavior Background checks and church safety training.

The best candidate(s) will have:

  • Training at Safe-Church (http://www.diosova.org/congregation_res/article462905.htm Proof of completion must be submitted to the search/vestry committee prior to hiring.
  • Has had a background check with the Diocese of Virginia within the past 2 years; a copy must be submitted to the Search/Vestry Committee prior to hiring.

How to register:



Hours per week
10 on average, or no more than 40 per month.

Specific schedules
Probably two Sunday mornings a month, with other times scheduled for activities.

Duration of position
From June 1 to August 30, 2022, with possibility of extension.
