Senatorial aspirant Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar wants Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) to step outside the realm of sports development to focus on other areas of leadership training, including being part of the solution to the country’s social problems.
In a statement, Eleazar said SK should take a more active role in other issues affecting young people, including juvenile delinquency and the launch of various community programs.
“Outside of ball games and other sports tournaments there are a lot of activities that SK could focus on. We need to empower young people more because they are the future leaders of the country, ”said Eleazar.
He also encouraged Local Government Units (LGUs) to support Saskatchewan youth development activities in their barangays.
Eleazar explained that he started community development programs for young people when he became the chief of the Philippine National Police to deal with child delinquency cases.
He said that if he won in the Senate elections, he would improve and strengthen the implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act 2006, which aims to provide appropriate care, protection and treatment to children. minors in conflict with the law.
Meanwhile, Eleazar also expressed support for Senator Panfilo Lacson’s position that parents should be held accountable for criminal offenses committed by their children.
Lacson and Eleazar both run under the Partido Reporma, the former being the party’s standard bearer. ###
