City changes vaccine requirements for youth activities at recreation facilities

After clarification from the provincial government, the City of Red Deer has released new guidelines for youth participating in city recreation facilities.

In a press release, the city says volunteers from organized sports groups can come in to exercise their activity-related responsibilities without proof of vaccination, exemption or negative COVID-19 test and that young sports participants, fitness and performance can participate in their activities. without proof of vaccination, exemption or negative COVID-19 test.

Anyone between the ages of 12 and 17 will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter city recreation facilities.

Adults 18 years of age or older will also be required to show proof of vaccination, medical dispensation, or a negative COVID-19 test performed within 72 hours of entering the facility.

Originally, the city announced that any visitor to city facilities over the age of 12 would be required to show proof of vaccination, medical dispensation, or a negative COVID-19 test.

Starting this week, anyone unable to wear a mask will be required to provide a medical exemption letter from a licensed healthcare professional.
