All State Police Youth Camps, including Camp Cadet, canceled for 2021 – Connect FM | Local news radio

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Our local Camp Cadet Troop C program through the State Police had previously announced in January that their summer camp would be canceled for 2021, but now the entire Pennsylvania State Police have decided to do the same thing.

There will be no upcoming State Police Youth Camps this year. Although COVID-19 rates are dropping, they still think it will be too soon to host these big programs.

The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) has announced the cancellation of upcoming youth camps due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Camps are typically held throughout Pennsylvania in the spring and summer.

“Camp Cadet, Commissioner’s Honor Camp and Sunny Day Camp are sources of community partnership and pride throughout PSP, especially among the personnel whose hard work and dedication make them possible,” said Colonel Robert Evanchick. , Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner. “We have made the difficult decision to cancel the camps in the interest of the health and safety of all participants, but we remain hopeful that programs will resume in 2022.”

PSP volunteers coordinate dozens of youth camps and events each summer, including 27 week-long sleep-in Camp Cadet programs for children ages 12-15; a commissioner’s honor camp, for exceptional teenagers selected from among the former participants of the cadet camp; State Police Youth Week, in partnership with the American Legion and National Guard; and 12 Sunny Day Camp programs, which are one-day events for children and adults with special needs or disabilities and their families.

“While increasing vaccine availability and declining COVID-19 case counts are cause for optimism, we believe it is too early to host these types of large-scale programs where social distancing and other mitigation requirements are not possible,” Col. Evanchick said.

The cancellation of the 2021 Elmer Hafer American Legion State Police National Guard Youth Camp (State Police Youth Week) was announced by the American Legion earlier this month.
