Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Our local Camp Cadet Troop C program through State Police previously announced in January that their summer camp would be canceled for 2021, but now all of Pennsylvania State Police have decided the same.
There will be no upcoming State Police Youth Camps this year. Although COVID-19 rates are dropping, they still believe it will be too early to accommodate these large programs.
Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) have announced the cancellation of upcoming youth camps due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Camps are typically held across Pennsylvania in the spring and summer.
“The Cadet Camp, Commissioner’s Honor Camp and Sunny Day Camp are sources of community partnership and pride across PSPs, especially among staff whose hard work and dedication make it possible. Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Robert Evanchick said. “We have made the difficult decision to cancel the camps in the interest of the health and safety of all participants, but we remain hopeful that the programs will resume in 2022.”
PSP volunteers coordinate dozens of youth camps and events each summer, including 27 one-week Cadet Camp Cadet programs, for children ages 12 to 15; a commissioner’s honor camp, for exceptional teenagers selected from former cadet camp participants; State Police Youth Week, in partnership with the American Legion and National Guard; and 12 Sunny Day Camp programs, which are one-day events for children and adults with special needs or disabilities and their families.
“While the increased availability of vaccines and the decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases are sources of optimism, we believe it is too early to host these types of large-scale programs where social distancing and other mitigation requirements are not possible, ”said Col. Evanchick.
The cancellation of the 2021 American Legion State Police National Guard Youth Camp (State Police Youth Week) was announced by the American Legion earlier this month.
