A group of Princeps players will organize youth camps

Some of Auburn’s biggest names in football will make local appearances ahead of the varsity preseason this summer.

Linebacker Owen Pappoe, safety Smoke Monday, running back Shaun Shivers and transfer quarterback TJ Finley announced two youth football camps on their Twitter pages Monday morning.

The first will be in Montgomery on the Montgomery Academy campus on July 24. Birmingham will host the second on July 31. Registration is limited and costs $ 75 per camper. Entrance includes shirt.

The camp provides the opportunity for 6-14 year olds to work with four Division I athletes. Pappoe is a junior linebacker and a multi-year starter for the Tigers. Monday was a second-team safety from the All-Southeastern Conference. Shivers has totaled nearly 1,000 career rushing yards. And Finley is set to join Auburn after a stint at LSU.

The event will be the first under the “Princeps” group, a brand launched by Pappoe and a few current and former Auburn players. “Princeps” – “leader” in Latin – was created as a service for athletes seeking to organize their own camps under new laws on names, pictures and likenesses.
